Making a difference.
Every law student is taught in law school that doing pro bono work is important after they graduate. Access to justice for the members of our community that do not have the financial ability to pay their own private attorney is absolutely essential to a functioning society. So many people go without legal representation and try to handle things themselves. The reality is that most attorneys do not do as much pro bono work as they should, if any at all. This is a business after all.
I have found a great way to contribute pro bono hours and provide legal assistance to those in need by helping through Legal Aid of North West Texas. They provide an absolutely essential service to our community by hosting legal clinics for those members of our community that financially qualify for their help. Years ago I participated in a legal clinic for veterans to get their estate planning documents done and it was one of the most rewarding things I have done in my legal career. This event was hosted by Legal Aid of North West Texas.
This year I am doubling my efforts to provide pro bono assistance through Legal Aid. There are many free legal clinics coming up in 2025 and I have committed to attending at least 4 of them that I can remember. You can find more information about these legal clinics by following this link: https://legalaidtx.org/locations/midland/
Over the years I have become good friends with Pedro Javier Fierro who is the Equal Justice Volunteer Program Coordinator for Legal Aid of North West Texas in our area. Working with him, I hope that I can continue to provide much needed legal assistance to those who need it the most.
